Canon's first Color Laser Beam Printer

Canon PrinterCanon has introduced its first color laser beam printer series. The LBP-2030PS and LBP-2030 were released in Japan last November, and in the U.S. market, the C LBP 360PS was released in January. Europe's model, also the C LBP 360PS, will be released this spring. With the series, Canon proves once again that it is the leading provider of color-printing solutions. The series offers the highest quality continuous-tone output, fastest speed and most reliable plug-and-play networking in the color laser beam printer market.

At the core of the printers is a Canon-designed engine that can output with a resolution of 600 dpi at speeds of three ppm for full color and 12 ppm for monochrome. The printer is capable of reproducing 16.7 million colors with continuous-tone output. Although the models are all driven by the same engine, they possess different built-in printer controllers. All versions except the LBP-2030 feature PostScript-based Fiery XJE printer controllers, 64-bit, 100-MHz CPUs and a printer-specific ASIC chip that can handle the full range of color-printing needs. The LBP-2030 features Canon's own printer description language, LIPS IV, targeting mainly the office market.

The new color laser beam printers can support EtherTalk, TCP/IP and Novell IPX protocols, and with autoswitching and autosensing functions, multiplatform networks are simple to set up. For further versatility, the printers are already installed with Macintosh and Windows printer drivers.

Canon's new NP6085 Copier

Canon Copier As the successor to the NP8530/NP9800, Canon's new NP6085 lives up to its development concept of "user-friendly power and performance." This innovative, large-scale copying machine was released throughout Europe in March 1996.

Only Canon can improve on Canon

For businesses and offices that produce large copy volumes, the NP6085 not only realizes high speed and outstanding productivity but it is easy to operate. On A4-sized paper, the new model boasts an output speed of 85 copies per minute (cpm). The first page of a copy job is output in approximately 3.0 seconds, making the NP6085 fast even for single-copy use.

Also available is an optional staple sorter that, with a new stack delivery function, can produce up to 40 copy sets into 20 bins for each copy operation. With this function, users can choose from three staple patterns and two staple locations. To further satisfy diverse user needs, the NP6085 can handle paper thicknesses of up to 200 g/m2 both in its paper trays and its multistack bypass.

The NP6085 promotes ease of operation with a large liquid crystal display (LCD) touch panel using Canon's original graphical user interface (GUI) technology. This feature enables users to operate the copying machine easily and efficiently. Also, paper jams can be detected quickly because the paper's path through the copying machine is clearly illustrated on the LCD panel. In addition, the NP6085 features an amorphous-silicon drum for durability and reliability.

Environmental consideration and excellent image quality

Preserving the environment is increasingly important in business and offices, which is why Canon employed such features as automatic power-off to save energy and automatic duplexing to save paper. The new model is also kind to the ears of office workers, since it incorporates a low-noise recirculating document feeder. The feeder also uses the standard stream-feeding technique to improve document handling and enhance productivity. For excellent copy images, the machine operates with Canon's original monocomponent dry toner.

Creative copying is possible with a range of versatile functions including those that give the user the option of overlaying, combining and separating images.
